Terms of service
Last updated 10 September 2026. Between you and Brandistries LLC, which operates KeptShut. By creating an account you accept these terms.
The short version: point KeptShut only at systems you own or are allowed to test. Pay monthly, cancel any time, keep what you paid for until the period ends. A clean scan is not a guarantee that you are safe.
1. The most important rule
You may only ask KeptShut to examine systems you own, or that you have explicit written permission to test. Scanning something you do not control can break computer-misuse law in the United States, the United Kingdom, the European Union and most other places.
We enforce a boundary in software: public checks, the kind any visitor or search engine already performs, run against any hostname. Anything deeper — active, authenticated or probing — runs only after you prove you control that domain. That boundary protects both of us, and you must not attempt to work around it.
The responsibility for having permission is yours, not ours.
2. Your account
Give us a real email address. Keep your password to yourself. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us at once if you think someone else has got into it.
One person, one account. You may add team members on plans that include them.
3. What you must not do
- Point KeptShut at anything you do not own or have permission to test.
- Use it to plan or carry out an attack on anyone.
- Resell or white-label the service except on a plan that includes it.
- Try to get around plan limits, rate limits, or the ownership-verification gate.
- Overload the service, or use it in a way that degrades it for others.
We may suspend an account that does any of these, without notice where the risk is immediate.
4. Money
Paid plans bill monthly in advance, in US dollars, through Stripe. Prices are shown on the pricing page. We will email you before any price change and it will never apply to a period you have already paid for.
Cancelling: two clicks on the billing page, any time. You keep your plan until the end of the period you already paid for. We do not refund a period that has started.
Failed payment: we will retry and tell you. If it keeps failing, the account drops to the free plan. Your data stays, subject to the free plan limits.
The free plan is free, has no card requirement, and we may change what it includes.
5. What we promise, and what we do not
We will run the checks your plan includes, and tell you honestly what we found — including telling you when a check could not run, rather than reporting silence as safety.
We do not promise that a clean result means you are secure. KeptShut runs a defined set of automated checks. It cannot find every problem, it can be wrong, and it can produce a false alarm. It is not a certification, not a penetration test, not legal or compliance advice, and not a substitute for someone who knows your system.
The fix prompts are suggestions for you to review, written for a coding agent. Read them before you run them. KeptShut never changes your code, your DNS or your server by itself.
We aim to keep the service up but do not offer a formal uptime guarantee on these plans.
6. Who owns what
You own your data and anything you put in. You give us permission to process it only to run the service for you. We own KeptShut itself — the software, the brand and the badge design. The findings and fix prompts about your own systems are yours to use however you like.
The "Kept shut" badge may be displayed while your site qualifies for it. It expires by itself when a monitored check regresses, and you must not display an expired one or alter it.
7. Limits on liability
To the extent the law allows, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, including lost profit, lost data or business interruption.
Nothing here limits liability for fraud, or for anything that cannot legally be limited.
8. Ending it
You may delete your account at any time from your settings page, and it happens immediately. We may end an account that breaches these terms. If we close your account without cause, we will refund the unused part of your current period.
9. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change matters, we will email you before it takes effect. Continuing to use KeptShut after that means you accept it.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the law of the State of New Jersey, United States, and its courts have jurisdiction — except where consumer-protection law in your own country gives you the right to bring a claim locally, which it may.
Questions
Can I cancel any time?
Yes, from the billing page in two clicks. You keep the plan you paid for until the end of the period you already paid for. We do not refund a period that has started.
What may I point KeptShut at?
Only systems you own or have written permission to test. Public checks run anywhere because they are what any visitor already does. Anything deeper requires you to prove you control the domain first.
Does a clean scan mean I am safe?
No. A clean scan means the checks we ran found nothing. It is not a guarantee, not a certification, and not a substitute for a penetration test.
Who owns what I put in?
You do. We only use it to run the service for you.
